Are You Sure About 6:30?

My kid is too funny. School is out so he thinks he can stay up all hours of the night and still get up early. He told me last night he was setting his alarm for 6:30, why - I haven't a clue. He woke up like he said he would, ate breakfast, watched SpongeBob and is now back to sleep in his bed. LOL... poor kid. He tried.

Well, it's off to work. I am only working about four hours. Then, it's laundry time. Ugh. I hate laundry some days. Don't you?

Whoa

Good Morning. Whoa. Two posts in less than twelve hours. I better pace myself.

I am off to the land of the "I can't cook for myself" and the "Oh my goodness! How many people are coming over?" I know I work in the grocery business, but my God people! Cook at home! Buy what you need every other week! I see some of the same faces in the stores every single day. Oh well. It pays the bills.

Right now I am sitting before you with a towel wrapped up around my head. Now, I don't quite look like the picture. Wish I did, but not even close. Anyway, I am waiting for my clothes to dry. Socks in particular. Is it crazy that I own enough black, gray, and brown business socks to do a whole load of washing with these alone? Uh, yeah.

Well, I am off to read about everyone else once again. Talk at all of you later.

Work!

Work is starting to kick me in the ass. I am so tired. This new store is a monster. Yet, I can't wait for it to all happen. I know this store is going to put me on the map. After opening this one, I will be able to go to any division and do the same thing. It will open many windows of opportunity.

But, it is starting to kick my ass. My kid is spending Memorial Weekend with his dad. Considering I work in the corporate world of grocery retail and people can't cook for themselves anymore, I am one of the fortunate salary people who will be working with no time and a half paid. woo-hoo.

So, what have you been up to this weekend? I know it's much more glorious and fun than mine. Do tell...

A Snip-It

Good evening. Just wanted to drop a quick line before I go and start some laundry. Work is going to be a bit hectic the next several weeks. We are moving three major departments in our "ultimate" store, so I won't have a whole lot of time to post. It will be short snip-its here and there. Hope you are all having a fantastic week. Catch you tomorrow.

Usual Sunday Off

Worlds of Fun was great. We only stayed for four hours. I was glad to get back home. Got a little sun and the trip was nice.

I have been dealing with some issues I am having with the kid. He has been sighing out loud quite a bit, talking back a little, and just not listening to me. He seems to forget to do the simplest of tasks, like shutting the front door. Maybe it's me. I just find it annoying.

Hope you all had a great weekend. Mine was good. I am getting ready to start some laundry. I put a roast in the slow cooker this morning. We are having roast with baby new potatoes, carrots, and onions. Yummy!

Catch you all later!

It's 6:30 and we are leaving around 7:30 for Kansas City. Can't wait! It should be a fun time. I will fill you all in about it when I return. Have a super Saturday!

Jimmy Johns is a Joke

For some reason, I am struggling with posts. I want to post, but just don't have the time. Anyway, here I am.

Question. Have you ever tried a new eatery and been totally unimpressed, wishing you wouldn't have wasted the time, money, and gas? I experienced this situation on Wednesday. There is a new sandwich shop, Jimmy Johns, which recently opened up in Wichita. Totally unimpressed. First of all, the service was terrible. The girl who took our order was bland. She had no personality, totally monotone to the core. No smile, no hi, no thank you. Nothing. I have seen more life in a slug. The person making my sandwich must have been related, because I didn't get a pulse from him either. I ordered a #2 Big John. This is a plain old roast beef sandwich on french bread. That's about it. It was tasteless. I could have made a better sandwich at home. The restaurant was poorly decorated with "in your face" signs stating 'your mom wants you to eat at Jimmy Johns'. There was even a sign that said 'No Hippies Allowed'. ????? What is up with that? As we went to sit down in one of the booths, a worker who was wiping off the tables ran right into my shoulder and didn't even say excuse me. This sent me over the edge. I had a very unpleasant eating experience and will probably never give this sandwich shop that offers "free smells" another chance again. I will tell everyone I know about the poor service and mediocre food from this "wanna-be food chain".

Yes. I do feel better now. Thanks for allowing me to get this off my chest.

On to better things. School is out on the 24th for the kid. WooHoo! I have a hair appointment tomorrow. WooHoo! I also have Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off. Yep! The whole weekend to spend with the squirt. I am taking him and one of his friends to Kansas City's Worlds of Fun. They need to let loose before the last week of school. Yes, I know. I am a cool mom! Yes, I am!

Mother's Day and More

I trust everyone had a great Mother's Day Weekend. I went home to my parents' house with boyfriend, kid, and a ton of food in tow. We arrived around 2 pm on Sunday and decided to grill out. We brought everyone a KC Strip, loaded baked potato salad, cream cheese corn, mashed potatoes and gravy, and rolls. It was an awesome meal. Funny though. The moms all ended up doing the dishes. We all retired out to the back yard where my kid, boyfriend, brother, and my future brother-in-law were all playing soccer. Did I mention that all three except my kid are 27? Weird, huh? They all get along quite well too.

My little nephew is now 13 months old and cannot walk yet. He walks around on his knees. It's quite funny, actually. He looks like a mini baby walking around. He has quite a temper which I am sure came from his mom and dad!

Josh and I have decided to sell the house next year instead of waiting for three years. I just can't live in this house for that long. I don't want to live in this house for that long. We need a much bigger house. Our current home has three bedrooms, one very small bathroom, two living rooms, a huge kitchen, a laundry room, and no garage. It sucks. I am looking for a home with at least four bedrooms, two baths, two-car garage, two living rooms, good-size kitchen, a dining room, a laundry room, and a big yard. This is the least of what I am looking for. I would also like to have a pantry, a foyer, a bar area, etc., etc. These are some of the extras. We are going to look into buying a home or even custom building one. We can't decide. We still have some time. I have been looking at some houses currently on the market. They are pretty reasonable so far. I don't know what the market will look like a year from now.

I still have to do my tag from Terri. I am suppose to show you my purse and everything in it. You will laugh when you see it. I promise that tomorrow. Have a wonderful evening.

Money Raised

The telethon went great. I think we were able to get around $150,000. I took about $9,000 of that on my phone line. The phones were consistently ringing for two and a half hours. Most of the contributions coming in were for $100. I did have some $500, $250, $200, and $150. I know one of my co-workers received a phone call for $3,000. Cool, huh?

Well, it's off to work I go. Hope you all have a wonderful day.

BTW - I forgot to tell you the kid got his braces and is doing well. Let's just say that wax is our friend!

Update

Wow!! I can't believe I haven't posted since Monday. I am so sorry. Haven't had many visitors anyway, so I am sure everyone is either too busy or they have lost interest. Ah well, who cares. This blog is just for fun and it gives me a little release every now and again. I have met some awesome people from this blog.

Okay, with the past news on the tornado, I do have some new information. I will be on television tomorrow evening. One of the local television stations is having a telethon for the disaster relief. I am going to be one of those lucky people who will be sitting taking donations by phone. Don't laugh when you see me for the first time. Ugh, I can only imagine.

This will be a fantastic opportunity for me to help give to that community. I am always so busy with work, so I don't have much time to physically put some hours into helping with all of the clean up. But, I can donate my time for two hours locally, helping to get donations.

If you are local and get a chance to call in, please do so. We will be on channel three. n b c

Well, hope you are all having a great week. Gotta run...

Faith

The storms are calm in the area I am in. Thank goodness. The waters are receding. Much of the south central part of the state is under water. But the water will recede.

Yesterday I spoke of hope which brings me to this. Hope is often the result of faith in that while hope is an emotion, faith carries a divinely inspired and informed form of positive belief.

We need to have faith in the people of Greensburg. We need to have faith in the people and surrounding communities to help them rebuild. I am still learning so much about faith.

I feel like I should break out into a George Michael song - Faith. But I will spare you the misery.

Well, the kid is getting braces today. We are getting ready to leave now. Wish us both luck.

Hope

More storms are brewing this evening. There is one on the doppler radar that is headed straight for Wichita right now as I type this. I will make this post brief.

My heart goes out to the people who are stricken with the recent tragedies from Mother Nature. She can be a tough ole' broad, can't she?

One thing I hope for - That the people of Greensburg do not lose hope themselves. If there is one thing you have, it is the strong community which you call your friends and neighbors. It is the family who has known you for years. It is the neighborhood kids you watched growing up, wondering how they grew up so fast. It is you.

If you are wondering how you can help out and live within the state, there are many local businesses who have set up a disaster relief plan. KSN has set up a drive for the citizens and rescue workers of Greensburg. You can make donations at your local Dillons grocery store and Qwik Shops. I do believe they are taking non-perishable food, water, and cash donations. Please help out where you can.

If you are living out of state and would like to know how to help. I urge you to write this next bit of information down:

Donations may be made to: United Way of Reno County Greensburg Relief, P.O. Box 2230, Hutchinson, KS 67504-2230. Contributions must be designated as "Greensburg Relief".

Thanks so much for listening. If you are not able to make a donation, please keep these people and community in your thoughts and prayers.

Now, I am getting prepared for the next round of storms. I'll be back tomorrow with an update. Hope you all have a fantastic week.

More Storms

Thank you so much for all of the well wishes and prayers. However, we are not out of the woods yet. Wichita has not really been affected by the line of storms coming through, but Greensburg has. My parents live in Great Bend, and they are now facing major flooding. If you have watched CNN or the Weather Channel, you will see pictures of major flooding in the down town Great Bend area.

Meloncutter was right. If you are having trouble locating Greensburg, all you have to do is Google - largest hand dug well. Greensburg will pop right up. It seems as though the well made it through, but the whole entire town is gone.

I was suppose to be there today to help clear out some things from one of our stores. However, that won't be happening because of the rain and more storms headed that way.

I am worried about my parents' house. They live on the southwest end of town. Fortunately, they have not had any tornadic activity close to home, but the water is now up to the driveway. My parents are fearful that rain will be coming into the house. It has been raining non-stop for two days now. They have received 12+ inches. Please keep them in your thoughts.

There have been many questions about tornadoes. First, we are warned by some awesome Doppler radar equipment. Sirens and weather alert radios are used to warn the citizens when a twister is headed there way. The folks in Greensburg were given a 30-45 minute warning. The advanced technology was able to make sure that a tornado was probably going to be produced, and was able to warn the townspeople well in advance. Three years ago, we would have seen many more deaths. The tornado occurred in the evening when visibility is impossible. People rely on the tornado sirens and the weather alert radios. It can get really scary. I have been involved in three tornadoes. None of which did any extensive damage.

I have to head off to work. We are organizing a Greensburg Disaster Relief Drive. Food, water, cash donations, etc. are what they are needing. There are still 100+ people in the various shelters. Keep these people and rescue teams in your thoughts. and prayers.

Tornado Country

As many of you have heard, Kansas got hit pretty bad with tornadoes. Wichita is okay, although we are suppose to get our fair share of bad weather today. Greensburg, KS was not so lucky last night. The tornado that hit Greensburg was almost one mile wide. It took out 60+% of the whole town. Greensburg is now being evacuated so that rescue workers can look for more people. There has been one confirmed death with many injured - 50+. Please keep this community in your thoughts.

Hey...

Hey everyone. Just thought I would drop a quick note. Remember all of the things I wanted to get done today. Well...

Uh-huh, didn't get to it. Oh well, such is life.

I will be camping out at a store for the next two days. For some reason this store called the VPs to come and visit for Cinco de Mayo. Why? What would possess you to do that? Now of course, the store will have to be "grand opening" ready. Lovely, just lovely.

Work, work, work. What are you doing in the next few days?

Wednesday, May 02, 2007

Today I am speaking to many of our future managers. We have a program in our company which develops department managers or people outside of our company into assistant managers. I am speaking to them today. WooHoo! I love doing this part of the job.

The dinner last night was okay. We went to a Cajun joint. I ordered the blackened grouper Alexander. I could only eat half. Josh's parents, brother, and grandmother went. I will admit that his family is totally different than mine. We were raised in two separate households, that's for sure. I will fill you in one day on the dynamics of his family. yeah, I'll leave it at that.

Good Morning

Good morning. Would you like to join me with a cup of coffee? I love mine with hazelnut creamer and one sweetener packet. It's the best way for me to start off the day.

It's a little cloudy this morning. Not too humid yet. I had trouble sleeping last night, even with the windows open. I haven't been sleeping well lately. Don't know why. My back has been a bit sore from all of the work we did this weekend at the store.

Today is another work day. I am calling it quits a little early. It's my boyfriend's birthday. We are going out to dinner with his mom and dad. joy.

I am scheduled off on Thursday and I have some much needed house work to do. I have a bunch of clothes to drop off to the dry cleaners and I have about five loads of laundry to do myself. The kitchen floor could use a good mopping and the front porch needs swept. Well, looks like I have my to-do list right here. Something tells me it won't all get done, but hey! I get an A for effort on writing a list.

Talk to you all later...
