Hockey Tonight!

I am off today. Thank goodness. Last night we had a going away party for one of my co-workers. He is going back to the store to an assistant manager role. Not something I would do, but he has never been one, so I guess you have to start somewhere.

If I change positions at my job, I definitely want to move forward. I would either want to be a store manager or go up another level in my department. I would rather do the store manager job though. I would love to positively influence people. Perhaps if I were a store manager, I could get Meloncutter to move back to Kansas! That would be fun!

We are going to the hockey game tonight. I haven't been going for awhile because work has spent up so much of my time. But I was visiting Andfre and saw a video he had on his blog. It made me miss hockey very much, so tonight I am going to the game. It is the last time we play our biggest rival at home, so it should be a good one!

Well, I need to go and grab my tickets downtown. I may do some shoe shopping as well. Hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

It's a blistery 29 degrees out with a chance of getting up past 40 degrees. It's suppose to be really nice on Saturday. I can't wait.

The kid is getting ready for school. I am dropping him off and then heading off to work. He will be at his dad's house this weekend. I miss him so much when he leaves.

Work has been such a drag lately. We are getting ready to open a new kind of store in a tiny little town west of here. I have to help out with the grand opening next week. woo.hoo....

Not much to talk about today, so I won't bore you with the rambling.

Later...

Brrrrr....

It's cold out there. 13 degrees at lunchtime.

Brrrrr...

I just want to curl up under a big blanket in front of a warm fireplace.

I can't wait for spring!

Wonderful Weekend

While I am waiting on my coffee to brew, I will let you know how the weekend went. On Thursday I drove to Great Bend and spent a night there. Friday morning a repair man came to look at the new recliner I bought for my dad. I couldn't figure out how to plug in the massage part of the chair, so of course I felt totally stupid when the repair guy had it working in less than 10 minutes.

We left around 10 am on Friday and got to Kansas City by 2 pm. We ate at the Chili's in the Legends Shopping Center - bad experience. The service was terrible, food was mediocre.

Oh, coffee is done.....

Okay, so we checked in to our hotel. We stayed at the Courtyard Marriott off of Midland. It was nice. I called my brother and we drove over to his townhouse to check it out. He just moved in about three weeks ago. It was big! Later that evening, we had dinner at Choga, a Korean restaurant. Yummy!

On Saturday we woke up, grabbed breakfast and waited for my brother to arrive. We then headed downtown to the City Market. I bought so much fresh produce. I am enjoying the sweet raspberries I bought right now! After walking around the City Market, we ate lunch at Minsky's. It is our favorite pizza place and the this particular location is the best!

After lunch we went to Legends Shopping Center and I bought the kid a bunch of stuff. He got a brand new pair of Nike's from the Finish Line. At American Eagle, I got him two pairs of jeans, a nice dress shirt, a polo, and a hoodie. For myself, I bought some perfume at one of the stores.

By this time we were quite exhausted. We headed back to the hotel to take a short nap and freshen up. For dinner we ate at the Four Seasons Korean Restaurant on Shawnee Mission Parkway. It was good too! My mom knew the owners so we stayed longer than one would normally stay.

Yesterday there was threat of snow, so we caught a big breakfast at Le Peeps. Yumm-O! We said good-bye to my brother and then headed back to Great Bend. I dropped my mom off and headed to Wichita. It was about 5 1/2 hours of drive time all together. But I had a wonderful time and would do it all over again.

Housewarming Gift?

Good morning. I am running around the house trying to get everything ready for my trip to Kansas City with my mom. I am going to Great Bend today and will stay a night there. We will leave around noon tomorrow and be in Kansas City by 4 pm. It's a lot farther away than Wichita is. It usually only takes me 2 and a half hours to get to KC, but from Great Bend, it will take around 4.

We are visiting my brother this weekend. He just moved into a 3 bedroom duplex with some friends, so we are going to visit. My housewarming gift will be 2 pounds of honey roasted almonds from the Nifty Nut House and a 3 pound pork butt from one of my stores. How's that for a gift - nuts and butts? Hehehehehehe.....

Blip

I am getting ready to go to our district meeting. It's the one and only blip in my vacation week. It will last about five hours. woo.hoo. Sounds like loads of fun.

I will check back in later....

Wake Up!

Yawn!

I am still sleepy this morning and I can't type. Good thing there is a backspace button. I am waiting for my coffee to get done. Excuse me while I tend to that...

Mmmm, I needed that! I love my coffee. I usually just have two cups. It tastes so good!

The kid is on his way over from his dad. No school today and tomorrow in the public school system. I am on vacation, but do plan on going to a district meeting tomorrow. It's totally voluntary.

Well, I better get around here. We are going to run some errands today.

Vacation's All I Ever Wanted

Hey there. I am just sitting here enjoying my hazelnut flavored Colombian coffee. It's soooo good! Today marks the first day of my vacation! That's right folks, I am taking a week's vacation in the middle of January for no good reason. I just want the time off. My company still owes me a week from last year, so I was able to take it in January since it still falls within our fiscal calendar. Hooray for me!

What are my plans? Well, today I plan on doing absolutely nothing. I am going to run a few errands around town today, but mostly plan to veg out. Tomorrow I will tackle some cleaning. Monday and Tuesday the kid does not have school, so I am sure we are going to be shopping with the gift cards he received for Christmas. Wednesday will be another veg day and Thursday I will be heading to Great Bend to spend time with my mom. Friday we are going to Kansas City together to see my brother and will be back home on Sunday. Lots of fun this coming week!

I was talking to my best friend last night. She lives in Omaha, Nebraska. Anyway, BFF and I are taking a Vegas trip in early March. We have another friend who is coming with us. He lives in Omaha as well. Josh will not be making the trip with us. I feel kind of bad about that, but I think I am going to change my mind. If he can get the time off, I want him to go. He has never been and I want him to be there. But if he can't, I still plan on having fun!

Well, enough gibber jabber. I need to go and run some errands. Talk to you soon!

Good morning! I am getting ready to head out the door. I am on my way to the North side stores. We have two stores in a neighboring city North of here. It will be a busy day.

Hope everyone has plans for a great weekend. What are your plans? Do tell!

Hey everyone!

It was a long week, but it's finally over. I had meetings in Kansas City and the usual store walks this week. I have to go in for work at midnight to help out a store for inventory. I haven't done one of those for awhile, so the time adjustment will catch up with me tomorrow. Hopefully I won't be a complete bear to work with.

Hope you all had a great weekend!

Checking In

Hey there.

The meetings in Kansas City were productive. We achieved quite a bit. I got home last night around 8:30 and spent time with Josh and the kid. I was off today and just basically vegged out. I even took a nap.

I also got word today that two coworkers are moving to different areas within the organization. One wants to move to California and the other is going to become an assistant manager. He has never really worked as a manager at store level and needs to do so in order to move up with our company. I am glad I have already done all of that.

Anyway, not much going on here. It's back to the daily work grind tomorrow. Hope you are all having a more exciting week than I am.

Tuesday, January 06, 2009

I am off to Kansas City this morning for some meetings. I will try and blog while I am there. If not, I will see you all on Wednesday!

I Am So Full

Have you ever tried the shrimp pasta from The Red Lobster? It's pretty good for restaurant food. Well, tonight I decided to make it at home. It turned out so much better than Red Lobster's version! I used all fresh ingredients. Fresh shrimp, Parmesan Reggiano (the real stuff), fresh parsley, fresh cream and lots of garlic. There was also some chicken stock in there which came from the pourable box (Thank you Swanson's). Josh is on the recliner and he can't move. I think I better make a low fat version next time or our furniture will never forgive us.

I worked today. It went by pretty fast. Lots to do this year. I am sure I will get most of it done. I talked about Possibilities vs. Resolutions the other day. One of my possibilities this year is to lose weight. I am not talking about a few pounds here or there, I mean lots! It's a possibility I may lose that weight, and then I may not. At least I won't make resolutions and then feel guilty about breaking them. It's my life right?

Another possibility I plan to work on is my contribution to my community. I would love to volunteer more and get my kid involved with this also. The kid already volunteers at a local church once a month. I wouldn't mind working with the homeless. I think I could help a lot of people who need it.

What are you doing in your communities? Do you volunteer? Can anyone give me some more suggestions?

The Leftovers Are Finally Gone

The day was sunny and cold, but I knew it would be a good one. Josh's family is always an entertaining group. You have his dad, JD, who is quiet and grumpy and set in his old ways. His mom, K, who is still in her wheel chair and trying to get stronger every day. Sister #1 is married with three children. The youngest one tends to get on the nerves sometimes with the constant tattling, but that is what children do when they don't get their way. Sister #2 has a live-in boyfriend and three sons. Her boys are very well behaved and the boyfriend has a huge appetite and loves to talk. Sister #3 is married and has two children plus a stepdaughter. I love her kids. Josh also has a younger brother who is an alcoholic in denial and an older half brother who lives in KC. There was also my own kid and myself. A total of 22 people in our house from 4 pm to 8:30 pm.

Here is what we had for dinner:
Shrimp platter
Vegetable platter
cheese ball and crackers
layered bean dip
antipasto tray
prime rib
roasted Parmesan fingerling potatoes
garlic mashed potatoes
cream cheese corn
steamed broccoli
brussel sprouts with almonds in butter sauce
fried green beans and onions
stuffing
deviled eggs
rolls
lime chiffon pie
cherry pie
cherry parfait cups
mini raspberry cheesecake bites in puff pastry
sugar cookies
layered lemon creme cake
layered strawberry creme cake

I made everything except for the two layered cakes. I had a pastry chef at one of my stores make those. I also did not make the cherry pie. It was brought by sister #2. The cheese ball was made by Josh's mom.

The appetizer platters we munched on while we waited for people to arrive. Everyone dug into the shrimp platter first. It was gone before all the guests arrived. After everyone arrived, we all had dinner. After dinner, we opened gifts. After gifts, I plated desserts. After desserts, I packaged leftovers for all families to enjoy at home and then patiently waited for everyone to leave so I could start cleaning up.

I love doing these holiday dinners, but I am always so anxious for everyone to leave so I can get the house back in order. I never get to truly sit down and enjoy myself whenever we host. I am always making sure drinks stay full and the party moves forward smoothly.

The last of the leftovers are finally gone. We have some lime chiffon pie left, only because I made an extra for us. I am so glad it's over with. I told Josh that someone else can do this next year. This will make it two years in a row that we have hosted Christmas at our house. Of course, if we move this year, we will probably have a larger home and will be expected to host. Not going to happen though.

I hope you all had a wonderful New Year. I won't make any resolutions, but will list my possibilities another day. I call them possibilities because then if I break them, it's okay.

Have a great weekend! It's back to work tomorrow for me.
